Due to outdated stereotypes, many patients still cringe when they hear the words ‘root canal’. However with new treatment techniques and rotary instrumentation equipment, the doctors at Valley View Dental are able to perform root canals without pain to patients and is faster and more reliable than root canals of the past. Many times when the nerve of a tooth has died, the choice comes down to either saving the tooth with a root canal or extracting the tooth. Each case is different and we can discuss the pros and cons of each case. After a root canal, a tooth becomes brittle and almost all teeth will need a crown after a root canal in order to stay strong.
A root canal will get you out of pain, but a crown on the tooth after the root canal will keep it from breaking down. We do most root canals in our office, but occasionally some will need to be sent to a specialist.
Valley View Dental is one of the first dental offices in the country to utilize digital 3D scanning to revolutionize denture care.
We take a conventional impression or mold of your mouth. This mold is then scanned into our computer, which allows us to make the denture digitally. This is a revolution in the denture making process. It results in less appointments to make dentures, better fitting dentures, and stronger dentures – all for the same price. In addition, since the dentures are created digitally, we will always have a record of them, so if they are lost or broken, you would not have to go through the entire denture making procedure again. We have a virtual computer model of them and could make you new ones from this model for a significant discount to starting over from scratch.
We also have the ability to make implant retained dentures. Many people don’t have enough ridge or bone to support their dentures fully. This creates loose and poor fitting dentures. Mini implants can be put into the bone and the dentures secured to these implants. Patients who have had this procedure done would never go back to their old loose fitting dentures. Imagine being able to eat without worry of them coming out, or having to use excessive amounts of dental adhesive. Ask us if mini implants are right for you.
Partials replace missing teeth. They are usually a good option if you need to replace multiple teeth on multiple sides of the mouth and the cost of bridges or implants is prohibitive.
Due to advances in filling technology almost all of our fillings are white. While silver and gold fillings hold up very well and if they are performing adequately, they usually don’t need replaced. However, most new fillings will be of a tooth colored material.
We will evaluate and clean your teeth appropriately. Patients have different needs when it comes to cleanings ranging from simple cleanings, to in depth periodontal scaling. We will assess your needs, discuss your options, and treat accordingly.
Dr. Porcello has obtained extensive experience with dental tooth extractions. As such, we are able to remove most teeth here including many wisdom teeth.
Bridges are a fixed way to replace missing teeth. Bridges are larger than crowns and most are still made at a dental lab.
The advantage of obtaining a bleaching kit from us is we make a bleaching tray custom fit to your teeth. This keeps the bleach in contact with the teeth and the saliva, which deactivates and washes away the bleach away. In addition our bleach contains ACP, which alleviates most sensitivity associated with home bleaching.
HOW DOES TEETH WHITENING WORK ?
You already know that whitening works, but do you know how?
Stains on teeth can be classified in one of two ways: extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains appear on the surface of your teeth. Intrinsic stains live between the microcracks in your enamel and deep within your dentin (the layer of your tooth underneath your enamel). Whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses may be able to remove some of the extrinsic stains on your teeth. But only teeth whitening agents can remove the stubborn extrinsic stains and the unsightly intrinsic stains that cause your teeth to look discolored.
Opalescence gels contain an active whitening ingredient (either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) that penetrates your enamel to get to discolored molecules. Oxygen molecules from the whitening agents react with the discolored molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them together. The oxygen molecules spread, whitening the entire tooth. As a result, you are left with a brighter, whiter smile.

Dental crowns are made from a variety of materials and different circumstances often require one material vs. another. The newest and most esthetic crowns are porcelain based. If this type of crown is appropriate for your needs, we are proud to announce our CEREC crowns. This is a state of the art computer and milling device which actually makes your crown as you are in our office. This means that you don’t have to have a mouth full of impression material, you don’t have to have a temporary crown on for weeks, and most importantly – you don’t have to come back to have the crown cemented. This is all done in one same day appointment, which saves you valuable time.
